The replacement of fossil by bio-based resources can significanlty contribute to the reduction of GHG emissions. But there are also other pathways in the bioeconomy that contribute to climate change mitigation, such as soil carbon sequestration, process efficiency or avoidance and use of organic wastes or circularity.
