Baden-Württemberg was one of the first federal states in Germany to develop a dedicated bioeconomy research strategy and to launch its Bioeconomy Research Program, which is supported by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts with more than 14 Million Euro since 2014.

In June 2019 the state government presented its new inter-ministerial strategy "Sustainable Bioeconomy for Baden-Württemberg". It sets the frame for a sustainable development of the Bioeconomy and contributes to making Baden-Württemberg a model state for sustainable and circular economy. The strategy will support the use of innovative concepts to access renewable and recyclable resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen biodiversity.

The 3rd International Bioeconomy Congress will be hosted online for the first time on 21 and 22 September 2020. The Coordination Office of the Bioeconomy Research Program Baden-Württemberg located at the University of Hohenheim together with BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg will be the organizers of the congress.
